Night: BLANG label night,Mon 14th September 09
Venue: 12 Bar Club, London
Details: 7.30pm-2am £6.00
Overall, you can expect high quality music from the Blang label, loosely in the psychadelic/alternative folk vein, kicked off by the critically acclaimed Sergeant Buzfuz: frontman Joe Murphy's John Cooper Clarke sensibility backed by the sweet sounds of dulcimer, violin and mandolin amongst other instruments. Next up, allow Whole Schebang to drench you in a sea of vocal harmonies as they perform their off-kilter pop songs. Don't let their charm to lull you into a false sense of security though, as headline act, Dan Edelstyn And The Orchestra Of Cardboard, will, as the name suggests, transport you to a level of surrealism you have probably never previously encountered on a Monday night. This gig marks the launch of their single, Germans In Space, a historical sci-fi fantasy based on the notion of a group of German scientists who escaped the Holocaust, and yes, he really is backed by lifesize cardboard musicians. Also a film maker, Dan is currently making a documentary about his Ukranian heritage for More 4, taking him back to the vodka distillery once owned by his great-grandfather. As if you didn't already have enough reasons to find out more about this artist, he is now importing this vodka (known as Zorokovich 1917). Topping off what promises to be an interesting night, one man and his guitar (or sometimes mandolin) Nat The Hammer will ensure you go home with an enlightened smile on your face.
Tickets available on the door at the 12 Bar Club.
