Fans of Nick Drake may recognise the name of Krystle Warren, as she is in the UK as one of the performers in an upcoming tribute tour to that master of heartfelt folk.  Before it begins, however, she is treating Londoners to her own acclaimed sound, the like of which has not been heard since the days of Joan Armatrading and Tracy Chapman.

Warren's assured vocal performance has all the grittiness of Nina Simone, and there are undeniable jazz influences in the arrangements, but the lyrics and songs ultimately have an authentic folk feel .  She has toured the US supporting Martha Wainwright amongst others, and is currently based in Paris, having been signed by the French label, Because Music (Amadou & Mariam/Manu Chao).  Maybe it is that she came from Kansas City to cut her teeth busking in New York that makes her sound so musically worldly-wise, but this does not sound like a breaking artist - more like one that is already riding the wave.
